comments: Shanghai is wonderful city, but full of creeping people, you will feel pressed in the heart while you
awaiting metro, strolling in the street or mall.hot maybe outsides, cold however in the office,so better keep
air conditioner celsius higher from getting cold and to save electricity for motherland.

comments: I am seeking contact information for the writer Song Luxia.

I read an article in the SHANGHAI STAR about her, and a cousin of mine has sent me a book on the "Haomen" she
wrote with chapters devoted to my family--the Suns of Shouxian, Anhui, and the Lis of Hefei, Anhui.

I am currently working on a family project would very much appreciate contacting Ms. Song for any information
she can give me about my family.

Many thanks.

Subject: Decent minimum standards worldwide

comments: In the interests of peace and development why aren't there very large taxes on the global armaments and war
industries trade, and the global short-term money markets? These could provide very useful funding for
humanitarian, development and biodiversity conservation programs? Also why aren't there taxes on pet food,
expensive restaurant bills and big-spend advertising with proceeds directed to emergency assistance programs.
Decent minimum living, working and environmental standards worldwide could be quite easily achieved with
initiatives like these.

Also in the interests of peace and development the worldwide routine and very serious human rights abuses in
prisons, police stations, institutions and workplaces, and state-sanctioned judicial and extra-judicial
murder need urgent, serious and sustained attention and action. As do the very serious human rights abuses
and murders of other criminal organisations.

Any governments, people and organisations with interests in accountability and the consistent and impartial
rule of international law and the achievement of decent minimum living, working and environmental standards
worldwide should support and develop the United Nations and other international organisations.

Why are most governments, legal systems and media worldwide characterised by double standards and selective
morality, representation and access?

Sincerely

John Finch

comments: Dear Editor:

PETA doesn’t just raise corporate America’s hackles, it also raises corporate awareness—and while that may
result in some early kicking and screaming, it often ends up with everyone, including animals and consumers,
better off (“Fighters for Animal Welfare,” 21 July). For example, Sara Lee and Jamba Juice executives read
PETA’s descriptions of painful experiments conducted on animals by the March of Dimes and decided to fund
Easter Seals—which helps humans without hurting animals—instead. Gillette’s executives said that when the
company met PETA’s demand to end tests on toiletries, it invigorated their science. Clothing retailer
Forever 21 won public applause and captured the compassionate youth market when it agreed to ban fur and fur
trim. Abercrombie & Fitch, Limited Brands, American Eagle, and Timberland all decided to source their wool
from compassionate suppliers after learning that sheep were being partially flayed alive in the Australian
wool industry. And !
Burger King not only made animal welfare reforms at the farm level but launched a BK veggie sandwich that
cuts the cholesterol by two-thirds. Capitalism can have a heart, and it should.

fonts. i.e. different sizes, amount of compression, styles. I expect that chinese language newspapers are
much more varied in this aspect, making the reading itself more visually interesting.

comments: I don't think the appearence of your articles on your website gives the feeling of the website
represent a newspaper of magazine. The pervasive unbroken plain white background, seem more a poster than a
"paper". I think the use of a sans serif type face, although fine in your masthead, and some titling within
the body of the text, is not really faithful to the traditions of body copy, of a traditional roman alphabet
newspaper. I would do a survey/review of other newspapers on the web to find models which give a more
traditional feel of a newspaper.

comments: Hello Everyone,

greetings from England, U.K.! I posted my comments on Friday, September 17, 2004 about a very interesting
news article I viewed in the Shanghai Star.

The news article "Smoke signals from ancient times" by Miao Qing reminded me of my amazing "Guinness
Matchstick instrument Collection.

I just wondered if anyone who lives in China can help me contact the " China Tobacco Museum, Shanghai?"

I would like to know if Xin Yuanming, Museum Curator, would be interested to learn about my tobacco-related
collection.

Can anyone can tell me the email address of Xin Yuanming? Or, please forward the photos and information to
the China Tobacco Museum on the following website:

English Text information online at:
http://www.catfish1952.com/MatchstickMan.html

I would appreciate it very much if someone from China can help me with my request.

Thank you in advance.

comments: Washington Post,July 20, 2005 has two news items, one is the resumption of 6-nation talk starting
July 26th and the other is a Pentagon Report about China. Inflammatory rhetoric or benign depiction would be
a matter of perception. I would endorse the view of Henry Kissinger re Sino-US and US-China relations: We
must think about our children and our children's children in the 21st century for peace and economic
development in the nuclear age. Let us ponder, reflect, contemplate and reason for the positive scenarios in
the days to come. Nobody should or would impugn the well-being of all homosapiens on earth in East Asia and

comments: Washington Post,July 19, 2005 Business section D1. Wall Street firms love deep-pocketed corporate
clients eager to make splashy deals. Wall Street loves CHINA where firms are cash rich and often enjoy low
cost financing from state banks. Chinese firms have emerged as major players in big deals such as Lenovo for
IBM PC,Oil firm Cnooc for Unocal and Haier for Maytag. It is always a matter of mutual benefits in economic
activites. Francis Shieh,Economist.

comments: My great aunt and uncle, Agnes and Harold Dollar, lived in Shanghai in the twenties and thirties.
The Dollar steamship lines had their home base in Shanghai. The family home was on Bubbling Well Road, which
I understand is now Nanjing Road. I have heard that the old home is now a hospital. We will be visiting
Shanghai on July 31st and would love to see where the old home was located. Do you, per chance, have any
idea what the address would be? We have pictures of the home, but no address. We will be leaving the U.S.
on July 23rd, so if you could send any info before that, it would be wonderful. Thank you so very much. We
are truly forward to seeing your beautiful city. We will be arriving on the Pacific Princess cruise ship, so
unfortunately, we will have only one day in Shanghai. I will look for to hearing from you. Thanks so much.

politicians are pushing such revaluation in the USA. "Economist" magazine published such information in a
