comments: Some folks wish to change Chinese habits to Western
habits altogether but Chinese folks do have our
own customs and traditions that even Westerners would like to
learn our Chinese culture. Learn the good one
and get rid of the undesirable ones. Going all out is incorrect
in my judgement. Have a nice day!

Subject: My Comment For you
comments: a couple of days ago, Li Wen, who got her fame by
continuously compaining about her neighbours' bad
habits, appeared on a TV show. She used to live in the U.S.
for a long time and got her doctor degree there.
Now she is living in a so-called 'international community' in
Beijing. Since she moved there, she has
displeaded many of her neighbours because she has strongly challenged
some of their living habits such as
hanging the underwears out to dry, raising pets, walking in
a public place wearing pajamas, etc. Although
what she said did make some sense and it is necessary for us
to get rid of some of the bad habits she
mentioned, I still regard her overacting as a way to win popularity.
My usual attitude towards such kind of
people is not to pay much attention to them.
But now, I have to make her a subject of talk here because something
she said during her debate with other
guests in the TV programme really upset me. When a professor
asked her whether it was fair to impose the
habits of western people on her Chinese neibours, she said that
she didn't find fault with the peasants, but
those living in a first-class neighbourhood and supposed to
be well-educated and well-off. I don't know what
wrong the peasants in China have done. They seem to have been
a synonym for poverty, illiteracy and uncivil
behaviors. It is true that many of the peasants have no chance
to receive good education and cannot earn as
much as Dr. Li does, but it doesn't mean that they should be
looked down upon and taken as a negative example
whenever such one is needed. Since Dr. Li is so concerned about
the manners of her compatriots, is it
important that she make herself a good model to teach us how
to show respect to people, despite their social
status or financial co!
nditions?

comments: I am from Singapore, and was recently in Shanghai,
from 9th to 13th June. In that short time, I
have come to have a good impression of Shanghai - the people,
the city environment, the taxi drivers and even
the staff in the neighbourhood shops.
In addition, I can see the tremendous architectural
changes taking place, and believe that should I return at
the end of the year, I would be seeing a new skyline.
Last but not least, I found your newspaper.
Altho' it is a weekly I find the information topical,
refreshing, interesting and well edited. Keep it up!
And if any readers wish to correspond with
me, I would be happy to have your comments, or have an exchange

Have a good day!

are 93% Confucians. It is known to all that Confucius
lived in Shandong Province,CHINA. Taiwan's OFFICIAL language
is Chinese-Mandarin which is originated in
China. Language and culture would mean Chinese in Taiwan. Westerners
would say Chinese to folks in Taiwan.
China is a permanent member of the Security Council of the United

That is the bottom line for readers to

comments: Social problems are many in China. This is what the
essay “Shadow Children, Lost Lives” brings to
my mind. Look deeper, and we find problems of laid-off workers,
university graduates who cannot find jobs,
polluted environment that saw an increase in water price in
Beijing, frequent coal mine accidents, huge gap
between the rich and the poor, and the critical living conditions
of farmers in rural countryside and more.
There must be something wrong with our social system, and certain
measures and actions must be taken to
correct it. Simply it’s a long way to go.

comments: Upon reading all these exciting episodes of how Shanghai
has changed over this short period of
time, being a resident and a local make me very proud.I am not
saying this city on the sea is THE BEST, it is
not, but it's truly the aspiration of the people and their dare
to dream the brave and then brave the waves
to realize their dreams that makes this city so special.
In virtually every aspects of our lives, things are changing,
when my very best friends got married last
month,we the invited guests were surprised to learn that nowadays
the newly-weds dont' hesitate to spend a
fortune to have the best for their one and only special day
planned. The couple arrived in a stretch white
Limousine at the hotel lobby, WOW! people in shanghai are blessed!
a friend tipped me of the company who
provided the Limousine, the one and only registered member of
the prestigous NLA (National Limousine
Association)---ASIALIMO(I think this is the company's name)---is
right here in shanghai!!!
I didn't mention this personal experience just for the sake
of the story per se. Our lifestyle is quickly
updating to the International level, we now have the products
and services from world-yop companies right at
the finger tip.How great it is to be part of this amazing city
who is never tired of aspiring for more and
better lives!

comments: I am Dutch, staying in Shanghai at the moment, after
having worked for 2,5 years in Uzbekistan.
Some of my friends still live there. I was used to stay informed
of their daily life by reading their
blogmail when working in other countries, when they described
their daily activities, trips to the mountains,
work, meeting friends etc. Having tried for some time to reach
their blogsite, which in other countries is no
problem at all, I understood finally that apparently in China
it is not allowed to approach your friends or
any blogsite. Now I am in the dark and only every now and than
can receive and send an email. Living in such
a prosperous country I feel deeply disappointed that this kind
of harmless information is forbidden to me and
probably others. I hope that wisdom finally will prevail and
will give the people a chance to communicate
with their friends, family and childres in this modern world
in a modern way.

not to shoot". I cannot agree with you more, i just want
to add: to judge the cop's reaction upon what turned out to
be is misleading. It's quite natural that people show compassion
for the victim of a tragedy. But be rational rather than sensible,
dear readers, it's the critical moment, the confrontation with
everything possible that we should consider for the behavior
of the cop.

crazyness on using horn either by car or
motorbikes must be cut back as the noise polution is terrible
for pedestrian specially tourist like us.
Greeneries also hopefully being kept at the current enthusiasm
to make Shanghai really hospitable and help to
reduce air polutions. Dont make the same mistake of Bangkok,
Manila, Jakarta.
Best wishes to all Shanghainese, you have a great city, keep
it civilised please and you will find many will
return here often.

comments: The "Golden Week" starting from May 1 is
quite a big hassle in China these days. The trains, busess and
even the airlines are all booked solid months ahead. The mad
rush of people from one place to the other in a huge country
of 1.3 billion is awesome. There are so many problems associated
with this long holiday for many. Why the government does not
think of asking employers to offer paid annual vacations to
their employees instead ? China is one of the very few countries
in the world that there are no vacations. Maybe that's why
so many lazy ones feel like having vacations all the time on
the job ?

comments: What can you do with red envelope
that doctors take from patients. What happened doctor's moral
standard? A wide spreaded corruptions in China cannot force
doctors stop taking Red Envelope. It is not amedical system
problem. It is a declining moral standard in the land of China.
God bless those patients!

comments: Hong Kong can maintain prosperity
and stability when folks in HK would review Chinese history
to be proud of HK to be returned to China after period of colonial
status under the British. The majority of HK folks are Chinese
by ethnicity and should be aware of such in the eyes of Westerners.
HK is a SAR of China and China will support HK as a SAR for
prosperity and stability in the days to come in the 21se century.

comments: I am an American who loves
China and the Chinese people.I am very involved with educating
the American public about the One-China policy with Taiwan as
a part of China, and about the violation of the Three Communiques
agreement by the U.S. in continuing to rearm Taiwan.. The U.S.two-faced
approach to the issue of Taiwan must be exposed with great and
worldwide publicity followed by action at the United Nations.
The demand for "status quo" of the situation by the
U.S. is a joke. It only helps to solidify Taiwan's efforts towards
independence. China must stop being "Mr. Nice Guy"!!
Faint heart never won fair maiden!!!!
