WATER-colour paintings and chalk drawings are on show at Shanghai Art Gallery from today to July 3.
Organized by Shanghai Artists' Association, the show aims to present the best of these traditions from over the past five years.
With bright colours and sophisticated techniques, these featured artists works express goodwill as well as the expectations people cherish for their lives. The themes of the works vary widely, from the Tibet Autonomous Region and some southern villages to life studies.
In Zheng Jiayuan's "Seaside," he describes the hectic working scene of two fishermen. With two yellow straw-hats shading their faces, one is standing, while the other bends his knees. Song Jianxin's "Still Is My Hometown" pictures the artist's haunted dream scene of a southern village on the water, whose tranquility and peace have not been disturbed by modern society.
Over the past few years, the demand for water-colours and pastels has increased, as more and more Shanghainese decorate their new homes.
Visitors can not only appreciate the paintings, but also buy them. During the show, a seminar on the current art market and an auction of the paintings will be held.
