Tricky student

A GIRL student from Tumen Middle School who was worried her parents would find out about her bad academic performance, impersonated her own mother at a school parents' evening. Before attending the meeting, she went to a beauty parlour to be made up to look like her mum. She nearly succeeded in making it through the meeting without being discovered, but when her English teacher called her by her real name, the girl forgot she was supposed to be her mother and responded readily.

Dealers go down

PROSECUTIONS were recently brought against 174 people accused of being involved in 138 drug cases, according to the Municipal People's Procuratorate. During the first half of this year, there was a marked increase in MDMA-drug busts, with 33 people arrested and over 10,000 MDMA pills confiscated, while during the same period last year only about 100 MDMA tablets were seized.

Bank drill

A FARMER who tried to break into a bank using an electric drill was recently sentenced to 10 years' imprisonment by the municipal No 2 Intermediate People's Court. Ding Xiangyin, from Sihong in East China's Jiangsu Province, attempted to force his way through a bank wall from a neighbouring building on December 11 last year. But he failed to penetrate the wall as it was reinforced with special material, and was seized by police. (Star News)
