A 35-YEAR-OLD local man was admitted to Yueyang Hospital for emergency treatment on the morning of June 18 after a failed attempt to give himself an enema. Having heard the previous day that washing the intestines could rid the alimentary canal of toxic waste and improve his health, the man inserted a plastic tube into his anus and pumped running water into his intestines. Medical examinations showed that the water had perforated his intestinal lining and caused a 5 centimetre rupture, releasing human waste

Indecent grandfather

A GRANDFATHER from Jinshan District has been charged with sexually molesting his three-year-old granddaughter, according to the local district procuratorate. The little girl's mother asked her father-in-law Shen to look after his granddaughter on April 22. Shen is accused of indecently assaulting the small girl after taking her upstairs to put her to bed. The girl's mother discovered the girl had been interfered with when she undressed her for a bath later in the evening.

Raid gamblers' lair

MINHANG District Police recently busted the organizers of a gambling den who allegedly made half a million yuan ($60,400) through gambling parties since April this year. Police seized 132 people and confiscated over 800,000 yuan ($96,000). The three organizers, Wang Bangwei, Chen Longhai, and Jiang Zhengxiong, were arrested while gamblers received punishments ranging from police detention to fines. THE friends of a thief who confessed his crime over dinner reported him to the police, according to the Minhang District Procuratorate. He Xiaowei, a farmer from Peiling in Chongqing, worked as an attendant at a massage bar in a hotel. On February 1 this year, He opened a locker with a public key and stole 2,580 yuan ($312) in cash and 900 yuan ($109) in deposits bank book from the dress of a customer. His friends later grassed on him after he became drunk and boasted of his plunder in mid-March this year.
