Live the e-life at downtown property HONG Kong-based Shui On Properties Ltd and Shanghai Zhonghong Group, developers of Ruihong Xincheng residential estate, have teamed up with IBM to provide multimedia e-living infrastructure. Every apartment in the Ruihong property, one of the largest projects in the downtown area, will have a bandwidth of 10 megabites to allow for high speed transmission. Residents can access information about the community, such as property management, club bookings and other services on-line. A community IC card will not only allow residents to enter the living quarters and parking lot, it will also work as electronic currency to pay for property management fees and other community services, according to Hei-Ming Cheng, general manager of the Ruihong Xincheng project. Ruihong Xincheng is the largest old-town redevelopment project in Shanghai. It occupies an area of 400,000 square metres in the city's northeast Hongkou District and has a total of 1.8 million sqms of buildings, including 18,000 apartments. Sales of the second group of four high-rise buildings will start this week at the Shanghai real estate fair. About 90 per cent of the apartments in the first group of three high-rise buildings have already been sold to clients who are company board members, general managers, lawyers, doctors, professors and senior white-collar workers.
