While the devout may dedicate real things, more commonly people just make symbolic offerings. According to a recent report in Xinmin Evening News, a man from Pudong placed a paper TV, a paper car, and even a paper KTV girl at the grave of his father and said: "In your lifetime you lived frugally. Now your son offers you all these luxuries for you to enjoy to your heart's content in your afterlife." Thief or son-in-law? A RESIDENT of Hongkou District, Lao Li, who took a disliking to his daughter's boyfriend, falsely accused him of stealing and tried to have him arrested last week. According to Shanghai News, On April 5 Lao Li's neighbour found him struggling with a young man whom Lao Li said was a thief and helped him to call the police. When a police car arrived the lad suddenly struggled free and tried to escape by jumping from a third floor window. He suffered extensive injury to his face and legs and was taken in for q uestioning by police. Subsequent investigations revealed the lad was dating Lao Li's daughter. Lao Li had returned home to find him with his daughter and had tried to have him arrested as a means of breaking up the relationship. (Star News)
