Free car plates BUYERS of some residential properties in Pudong and Santana or Buick sedans will be provided with free registration plates as of Thursday, the Lujiazui Financial and Trading Development Co Ltd said. The company signed a contract with six other partner companies last week in Pudong. Shanghai branches of the Commercial and Industrial Bank of China and China Construction Bank will also provide free, complete car insurance to people buying Santana sedans, the company said. Zone output up THE industrial output value for the first quarter of 2000 in Jinqiao Export and Processing Zone reached 9.2 billion yuan ($1.1 billion), an increase of 61.8 per cent over the first quarter of last year. Shanghai General Motors continued to take the lead in the industrial output value accounting for a total of 2.19 billion yuan ($264.4 million) for the first quarter of the year. IT products SHANGHAI plans to manufacture 100 billion yuan ($12 billion) worth of information products this year, in an effort to develop a new pillar industry. The city now has three integrated circuit producers and 18 IC designing centres, which will turn out products valued at 10 billion yuan ($1.2 billion) this year. The city will manufacture 35 billion yuan ($4.2 billion) worth of telecommunications products this year.
