Certificates for OTC medicines to be discussed

ALL pharmaceutical companies wishing to grab a share of the OTC (over-the-counter) medicines market in China need to apply for certificates for their products this August.

But who can apply, how should you apply and what are the procedures?

Answers to these questions will be provided during a series of conferences organized as part of the 2000 Biotech and Pharm Shanghai China exhibition.

The exhibition is to be held on April 26-29 at ShanghaiMart. Another three exhibitions, 2000 OTC Pharm China, 2000 Pharm Machinery & Packaging Shanghai and 2000 Medtech Shanghai will be held at the same time.

About 200 companies from both domestic and foreign countries in bio-medicines, OTC medicines pharmaceutical machinery and biological technologies will be participating in the exhibition.

"But what makes the exhibition most important is the exchange of information and technologies at the conferences during the exhibition," said Wang Jianping, division director of the Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical Industry Office of Shanghai Municipal Government, the organizer of the exhibition.

The office has invited five American bio-tech and pharmaceutical experts and two Chinese academicians to give seven conferences on the first day of the exhibition about various topics including screening of drugs, genetic chips technologies and genomics.

Speakers in conferences on the other two days include representatives from the State Drug Administration, Chinese OTC Medicines Association and some medical or medical information companies which will discuss the application of the rules on OTC medicines worked out last year, and experts on bio-technological and pharmaceutical development through e-business.
