Hospitals co-operate in neurology

RENJI Hospital announced last week it will be co-operating with the Shanghai Neural Studies Institute attached to the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

Renji is Shanghai's oldest clinic specializing in integrated traditional Chinese therapies and Western therapies.

"Our research achievements can be more easily tested and applied with the co-operation of Renji Hospital. The partnership will be to the benefit of the patients," Wu Jianping of the neural institute told a local newspaper.

This latest co-operation follows the news last week that Huashan Hospital has established a neural surgery unit in conjunction with five other local hospitals.

Huashan's former department of neural surgery enjoyed an international reputation in neurology.

But in recent years, the ward had been over-stretched, inundated with sufferers seeking treatment.

The new unit devoted entirely to neural surgery is affiliated to Huashan Hospital. The five other clinics which will also run the centre include Putuo District People's Hospital and Punan Hospital.

"With five new hospitals contributing the problem of over-crowding should be relieved, clearing the way for technological upgrade in these hospitals," said Liu Jun, director of Shanghai Municipal Health Bureau.
