Discovering quiet luxury downtown
By Tracy Tao

RESIDENTS in Shanghai can see large stocks of high quality properties in the suburbs, but new, high quality ones in the downtown area seem hard to find.

Several new properties this year seem to be filling the gap in this respect. Among them is the fully furnished high profile apartments for lease in Chevalier Place which was completed this year.

The complex, developed by Shanghai Chon Main Property Development Co Ltd, Chevalier Development International Ltd and Shanghai Xuhui District City Construction, is located on the quiet Anfu Road, which is the walking distance from busy Changshu Road and Yan'an Road Middle.

Unlike in suburban areas, where designers have plenty of space to carry out their plans, every inch in Chevalier Place has had to be carefully designed to achieve a sense of comfort and spaciousness.

The building features large apartments, good views and convenient access to downtown Shanghai, said Jeffrey Jin, marketing manager.

"Every unit in Chevalier Place has four bedrooms with the smallest unit 250 square metres," he said.

Fully furnished means that any household items, from furniture and electronics to knives and forks, will be provided in every unit.

Anfu Road is a quiet road with strong cultural atmosphere.

The building is just one block away from the People's Drama Theatre and Yonglegong Cinema.

There are rows of two- or three-storied classic houses surrounding Anfu Road, bringing some nostalgia to the tenants.

The developer has decided to change the construction of the originally-planned outdoor tennis court into green space.

At present, 12 families have moved in, most being Chinese or foreign CEOs.

Some apartments on the lower floors are now available at the special rent of $0.50 a square metre a month during the promotion, Jin said.
