It's official, Win2000 now on local market MICROSOFT officially unveiled last Thursday its landmark generation operating system - Windows 2000 Chinese version - in the local market despite the fact that it has already been selling well for almost one month. The firm has already launched the giant multilingual operating system in Beijing on March 20 and in the US market one month ago. "Microsoft will live up to its promise to provide the most powerful and stable operating system to our customers," said Jack Gao, president of Microsoft (China) Co at the inauguration ceremony. The newly appointed president is a native Chinese graduated from Harbin University of Science and Technology and furthered his studies in the United States, took his current post in January. "The new software is targeted at providing a whole package of solutions to business Internet, compared with its predecessors Win95 and Win98," said Gao. Over 1 million copies of the software have been sold worldwide in a month since its debut in the United States. However, local experts lower the selling forecast, claiming the software is expensive for local customers and that it has a number of possible bugs. The milestone software is priced at 1,700 yuan ($205.31) for Windows 2000 Professional, 8,800 yuan ($1,062) for Windows 2000 Server and 39,000 yuan ($4,710) for Windows 2000 Advanced Server in the local market. Gao said the Chinese version of the software has a series of revisions and improvements through local research and development. The version has been installed in most of the big name PCs, including IBM, Compaq, HP, Dell, Toshiba, Legend, Haier and Founder. Copyright 2000 by Shanghai Star. All rights reserved. |
