CPD's fashions for new season
By Susan Xu

SENSUAL, chic and colourful ethnic looks will dominate the catwalks this year, according to a trend guide from CPD, the world's largest fashion fair, held recently in Dusseldorf, Germany.

‘Sensual chic'

This year, femininity and casual style unite to form a new, urban wear billed as "sensual chic."

Cool styles with graphic and organic lines will give a soft and lived-in feel with gentle colours and fabrics with volume.

Decorative elements like pearls, embroidery, fur trim, embroidered belts or yokes for feminine and unconstructed and minimalist silhouettes will emphasize the figure or play gently around it.

This season will feature an interplay of individual garments in A and H-lines: slightly flared, knee or calf-length skirts teamed with figure-hugging jerseys and wool fabrics tops; loose-cut, pleated shirts with narrow roll-necks' and A-line capes teamed with straight-cut trousers.

Sleeveless, knee-length shift dresses and tops with emphasized round, slightly over-cut shoulders will also figure over figure-hugging roll-necks.

Also comfy loose pullovers in slightly see-through hand-knits with voluminous full roll-necks with skirts and ankle and floor-length trousers, again with wider bottoms.

Colours are new basic tones from cool, watery sea green to icy lake-blues, roses from brownish rosewood hues to taupe, and also vanilla, apricot, gold skin tones, twin-hued ecru and beige-tinged khakis.

‘Ethnic temptation'

Coloured folk and ethnic looks from throughout the world, mixed with a touch of the hippy style is the theme of this collection. Modernized in fabrics and colours yet at the same time visibly reminiscent of tradition, this new look creates individually composed outfits.

Romantic and girlish, suited both to everyday and special occasions, there are a variety of styles such as multi-ethnic with technical glamour.

Nordic- and Baltic-inspired ethno knits with a hand-crafted feel, alongside long loose skirts with seam borders are detailed with all-over or graduated embroidery, flounces and frilly hems or huge woolen or crochet scarves. This collection has fringes, pelerines, ponchos and duffel coats knitted or woven, sleeveless, hippy cardigans or waist-high waistcoats.

Other hand-made features include perforated edges, cross-stitch; borders, appliqued braiding, blanket, wool, pearl and fur fringes, waistbands embroidered with folkloric patterns, belts and seams.

Rich colours in mid tones demonstrate the lasting trend towards more colour. Important here are the reds: from wine and argol-inspired-rose to red tones, plus reddish ochre and cognac nuances. From reddish browns, moss and pine to colorado spruce green accents. Also metallic, reflex and neon dashes of colour.
