Positive report for stomach pill GERMAN-based Bayer Healthcare Co Ltd Shanghai Branch is publicizing the positive findings of a report on Talcid, a new over-the-counter chewable tablet for the treatment of stomach problems. The report written by doctors from the Digestive Disease Research Centre of Beijing Medical University found: "Talcid keeps a natural PH balance in the stomach, which helps to relieve dyspeptic symptoms." "One special multi-layer molecular structure in Talcid also protects the stomach lining and induces high quality healing of ulcers," said doctor Lin Sanren, director of the centre and deputy director of the China Digestive Disease Association. Talcid is Bayer's brand name for hydrotalcite, a single chemical entity that exists in the form of a mineral and has been developed into the third-generation antacid for treatment of stomach (dyspeptic) problems. Such problems include abdominal discomfort, pain or burning, heartburn, feeling bloated, nausea and distention. A press release from the manufacturer said the tablet can be taken as soon as stomach discomfort begins and also as a preventative before important occasions to avoid discomfort. It is sodium- and sugar-free and so patients suffering from diabetes, hypertension, heart and liver problems can also take it. The company estimates 20-30 per cent of the global population suffers from stomach problems at least once a year. Copyright 2000 by Shanghai Star. All rights reserved. |
