Thai food festival unveiled at Orient Express Restaurant

BEAUTIFUL scenery and friendly people aside, visitors to Thailand are usually sold on its food.

The Thai Food Festival, which opened yesterday at the Orient Express Cafe Restaurant of Crowne Plaza Shanghai, offers Thai food enthusiasts the chance to satisfy cravings for good, hot Thai cuisine like coconut curry and fragrant long-grain rice.

Chef Thawatchai Yonnawa, who has worked in Munich, Germany, as well as Thailand and "food carving artist" Bang-on Ketkham have been flown in from Thailand specially for the festival, which will last to March 11.

They have helped turn the hotel's Orient Express restaurant into a tropical Thai village with a wide range of Thai food, such as Tom Kha Kai (chicken in coconut milk), Yaam nuea (Thai beef salad), baked fish mousse in banana leaves and Yaam polamai (mixed fruits).

The festival includes an all-you-can-eat buffet charged at 148 yuan ($17.83) per person plus a 15 per cent for service, and automatic entry to a lucky draw for a return ticket from Shanghai to Bangkok provided by Air Macau.
