Countdown to the hot season
By Susan Xu

TO aid in the countdown to warm summer weather, famous Swiss watchmaker Swatch has released its Spring/Summer series for 2000.

While most fashion designers think the colour black has reached the end of its lease with the onset of spring, Swatch disagrees. Cast in a striking combination with white, the two colours show a grace befitting summer, according to Swatch.

Other colours and patterns including flowers and animals also figure in the series.

For watch straps, Swatch favours metal, transparent crystal and flexibility.

Every watch in the series has a completely new design. This year's Short Story Collection from Swatch includes:

1. "GN 187 Heartbeat" - Designed to be the first watch for Valentine's Day of the new millennium, this watch has a lot of detail, all themed on love.

Dozens of red hearts are printed on the strap symbolizing love.

The Heartbeat watch comes in a heart-shaped package and with a CD of love songs.

2. "GN 184 Just Born" - This exquisite watch is aimed at proud parents of newborn babies. Not of course intended for the baby itself, but as the perfect keepsake for parents, grandparents and anyone who loves the baby.

If the baby is a girl, Swatch designers suggest the light pink model with the inscription "I am your baby" on the watch strap. If it is a boy, then the blue one with a chrysanthemum pattern is most suitable.

3. "GB 905 Packing List" - Forgetting something? This watch from Swatch is your constant reminder. Wearing this watch will help transform you from a forgetful person into one who remembers with essential items printed on the strap such as a toothbrush, air ticket, and reminders to turn off lights and book a taxi.

4. "GB 197 Rugby Ball" - Simple and cool, this watch with a fundamental colour of white and black expresses the unrestrained character of rugby players. It is meant for the customer who likes to be out of the ordinary.
