Merger brings first exhibition JV

THE first local Sino-foreign exhibition joint venture was formed in Shanghai last week after the merger of two established exhibition services firms. The 51/49 joint venture - Shanghai Shangya Trade Exhibition & Promotion Co Ltd (STEP) - will mainly devote itself to exhibition services in the domestic market, especially in Shanghai, according to the newly-launched firm's officials. STEP was jointly launched by the Shanghai-based International Trade and Promotion Corporation - the exhibition arm of the Shanghai Commission on Foreign Economic Relations and Trade and the Hong Kong-based Adsale Exhibition Services Ltd. The merger is contracted for 15 years. STEP general manager, Jiang Shuyuan, said the exhibition industry will experience big growth when China's entry of WTO is assured in the near future. This will give the exhibition industry a golden opportunity for business expansion. "We will make full use of the advantages our parents provide in the domestic and overseas markets in our business development," said Jiang.
