Website bids to be good medical guide JUST one click, you might be interviewing with a psychologist in Shanghai, or a traditional Chinese doctor in Guangzhou. This can not only be done for remote diagnoses by hospitals equipped with advanced facilities, but also accessible at several of China's health websites, one of which is www.daoyi.com. The website, now still in Chinese, will present surfers with medical information in English starting from June. "We hope to be able to tell patients where to find the most experienced doctors to cure their illnesses. We can organize patients with various diseases to let them have some place to chat with others in different places and encourage one another," said Zhou Lingling, one of the founders of the website. He graduated with a doctorate degree in chemistry in the United States and later worked for management consultants, McKinsey. After being self-employed for several years, he established the health website with his partner, Huang Wenming, an experienced businessman in the health information industry in China. They hope to connect all hospitals in China, and later in other countries, with patients suffering from various illnesses. Now, 210,000 hospitals in China have registered at the website and more are expected to join in. The company also employs doctors specializing in different health specialties to regularly give instructions to website surfers. At the website, five sectors of health information are covered: • General health news and information, shopping for health products, community services provided to patients of 20 chronic diseases, Internet hospitals, medical universities and libraries. The traditional Chinese medicines and therapies will also play a big role at the website. • Psychological health news and instructions on psychological health; • Instructions and discussions of healthy sex at the sub-website named "Paradise Gained." • Instructions on beautification; • Instructions on harmonious families. At one of its sub-websites named "Baby-Loving Garden," young parents can obtain the specialized knowledge needed for periods from pregnancy to the time when babies are growing up. The website also features organ donations through the Internet and the publishing or discussion of medical theses. Copyright 2000 by Shanghai Star. All rights reserved. |
