Moreau storms off 'ER' set

LOS ANGELES--French actress Jeanne Moreau who travelled to Los Angeles last week to film five episodes of the highly rated TV drama "ER" has left the programme after storming off the set, Daily Variety reported on Monday.

Moreau, one of France's most famous actresses, was to play "Elise," the mother of British doctor Elizabeth Corday (Alex Kingston), in her first major role in a US television series.

But the trade journal quoted "sources" who said the French superstar had "many problems" adjusting to the environment of US television.

Moreau, 71, left the set last week, "just a few hours after arriving for her first day of work," Variety said.

Officials for the Warner Brothers-produced hospital drama refused to confirm the story on Monday.

"We don't have any comments on that," ER spokesman Gary Mednick told AFP.

Moreau's diverse film career dates back to 1949, starting with "Dernier amour."

Since then she has worked with some of the greatest names in cinema, including Luis Bunuel, Orson Welles, and Louis Malle, who wrote his second film, the erotic classic "Les amants" (1959), especially for her.
