Over 20 hurt in bus crash
MORE than 20 were injured, three seriously, when a No 116 bus hit the pillar of the Inner Ring Road yesterday afternoon. The accident happened about 16:30 yesterday near the intersection of Yixian Road and Changjiang Road South in northeast Shanghai and no deaths have been reported. All the people injured were rushed to the nearby Baoshan, Wusong, Changhai and Jiangwan hospitals, according to an official from the Shanghai Public Security Bureau. (Star News)

Thieves break into vacant building and lease it out
FRAUD involving thousands of yuan was recently exposed while Minhang District Procuratorate were handling a case of theft. According to sources from the procuratorate, last November suspect Tang Lei and a number of accomplices, decided to make money illegally through a scheme exploiting vacant residential housing. On the evening of November 10, they broke into an empty building and removed the locks from its door. They then sent them to a locksmith to have keys made before putting them back. The following day, one of the suspects, pretending to be the owner of the house, brought some prospective tenants round. One of them, Liu, expressed his interest in renting rooms in the property and Tang referred him to an "intermediary company specializing in house rental" - actually his accomplices. They managed to defraud Liu of a total of 3,700 yuan ($447) in rent money, according to the sources from the procuratorate.. Some of those involved in the fraud were later captured while they were committing a theft on another property. Subsequent investigations brought their involvement in the fraud case to light.
