According to Dai Xinpu, a senior weather forecaster from the centre, the accumulated rainfall for January so far has reached 50 mm, which is more than the average 40 mm for the whole month of January during an ordinary year.

The rainfall for December, however, was only 5.1 mm, far short of the 35 mm monthly average for December, according to Dai.

Shanghai residents will continue to enjoy a mild winter.

According to Dai, in the next few days, the temperature may drop slightly, but the sudden cold experienced during the December 20-23 period will not be repeated.

During that period, the coldest temperature was 4.8 degrees centigrade below zero for the city proper and 7.3 degrees centigrade below zero for the suburbs.
