ABOUT 80 per cent of expatriates say they are satisfied with life in Shanghai, according to a survey reported in the Jiefang Daily.

The survey, launched by the Shanghai Quality Association, is based on interviews with more than 500 expatriates from 19 countries conducted since last year.

About 80 per cent said they are happy working and living in Shanghai. More than 94 per cent expressed their willingness of travelling around the city.

The statistics shows that

57.4 per cent of expatriates came to the city repeatedly during the recent two years and 23.6 per cent of them live here for a long term.

Seventy-four per cent of expatriates surveyed agreed that local people are of fine breeding. As to the manners of treating people, the satisfying rate is 13.11 per cent higher than that in 2002. Only 4.8 per cent of people think Shanghainese are "fussy and not tolerant".

Comparing Shanghai with other big cities, expatriates had some advice.

They suggested the city could improve its air quality, public facilities and signs in public places which should be more clear. More than 37 per cent of those surveyed said Shanghainese should be aware of the importance of environmental protection. (Star News)
