- Used-car markets in China
Guangzhou: Following the enforcement of a transport regulation in April 2004 restricting motorbikes from certain sections of road during peak hours, second-hand car transactions did not show the immediate surge that was expected.
- Going, going, gone
THE out-of-date cinema on Sichuan Zhonglu has not been so busy in years. But on this occasion, it was not a movie that drew the huge crowd, but a public car auction.

- Colgate toothpaste and the media
To be honest, despite incessant news reports about potentially harmful products over the past month, I doubt whether many pose a real threat to my life. News that P&G's SK-II had been accused of including harmful ingredients left me quite indifferent because I've never been able to afford such expensive cosmetics. News that KFC's chicken wings contain "Sudan 1" (a chemical dye suspected of causing cancer) was surprising but not really worrying because I do not visit KFC very often. News that a child had choked on a jelly sweet and died aroused my sympathy, but still had nothing to do with my daily life.

- ``Little scholar'' in the neighbourhood sows stress
The boy is 16-month-old, with a surprisingly strong desire for knowledge. According to his mother, whenever he discovers a word, he immediately asks its meaning. "So far, he has learned more than 100 Chinese characters!" said the proud mother. My parents, my husband and I listened with great admiration. My son is only two months his junior, but he has shown very little interest in any characters or books. Every day he just toddles about throwing away everything he touches, or treats a stool as a pony and pushes it to every corner of the room. What a big difference!
- The video images are shocking.
Apparently without provocation, a teenage girl in a school uniform is viciously attacked after being cornered by a gang of schoolmates. In a senseless act of out-of-control youth violence, she is caught up in a frenzied maelstrom of kicks and punches. She does her best to melt into the wall, but ends up a battered child, crying on the floor.
