Various countries have adopted measures to control the use of public cars for personal business.

In Sweden, the government has designed a computer-controlled monitoring system. Each public car has been equipped with two buttons, one for business use and the other for personal use. The driver must press one of the buttons in order to start the car. A computerkeeps track of the driving route and the driver is asked to account for unexplained diversions.

In Germany, only State leaders and ministers have business cars for their own use. Many government departments rent cars as they are needed.

In Helsinki, the mayor is the only government official who enjoys the use of a chauffeur-driven car.

The Republic of Botswana makes different plates for private cars and public cars. Private car plates are white or yellow, while public car plates are red. On Saturdays and Sundays, people won't see public cars in the street because they can only be used during work time. (Star News)
