keeps mind sharp

NEW YORK - People who stay just as active after age 70 as they did before are less likely to experience age-related declines in mental functioning, new study findings suggest. Previous studies have stressed the importance of keeping the body active in old age in order to keep the mind active, as well. The current research suggests that it's not just being active, but staying active, that can make a difference, the authors note.

Religious affiliation

reduces suicides

NEW YORK - Depressed men and women who consider themselves affiliated with a religion are less likely to attempt suicide than their non-religious counterparts, according to new study findings. "If someone acknowledges being religious, all else being equal, they are at lower risk of acting on suicidal thoughts than someone who does not acknowledge religious affiliation," Dr Maria A Oquendo said.
