LIFE
WITH more fashion designers looking to Asia for inspiration remember YSL's Fall/winter collection? - all things Chinese are hot.

Life Style
  • La vida loca
EVER wondered where all the expats hide on a Wednesday night? The answer: Zapata's Ladies Night. The Mexican style mix of cantina, bar and club is the place to be to mingle in and amongst a largely foreign crowd, crowded with ladies drinking frozen margaritas for free.
  • Kitchen hospitality
ALTHOUGH China is famous for its food, Chinese people don't seem to show enough passion for their kitchens. As an ancient Chinese saying goes: "A gentlemen stays away from the kitchen."
  • Stunt-led growth
"BIO grab", "rewind", "rock and roll", "rocket" ... these are the names of action sports stunts demonstrated to enthusiastic applause at the LG Action Sports Asian Tour-China, held at the Shanghai International Gymnastic Centre during last weekend.
  • Family fun
"UN, deux, trois, quatre," the students counted, following the lead of their French teacher Caroline Begin, in a language class at Guangming Middle School. After one month's training, they are getting familiar with French pronunciation.
Fashion
  • Nomads of China
WITH more fashion designers looking to Asia for inspiration remember YSL's Fall/winter collection? - all things Chinese are hot.
  • Pretty relaxed for spring
WHAT'S new on the Spring/summer 2005 T-stage? According to the 2004 P&G Beauty Exhibition, held in Shanghai: modern elegance and super-luxury, in contrast to the "fling-it-all-together" approach of "boho chic".
  • Fashion week kicks off
THE city of Shanghai will hold 2004 Shanghai Fashion Week from October 23 to 29.
Health
  • Bonds of blood
Statistics from the Chinese Society of Blood Transfusion show that 85 per cent of the blood used in China today is collected from donors, with the remaining 15 per cent coming from blood sellers.
Travel
  • Spiritual break at Lingshan
DUE to the terrible traffic on the Shanghai-Nanjing Expressway, it took us nearly four times as long as usual to make the journey from Shanghai to Wuxi in nearby Jiangsu Province on National Day evening. Yet all the fatigue and annoyance completely disappeared the next day when we drove along the side of Taihu Lake to the Lingshan scenic spot, enjoying the warm autumn sunshine and cool breeze.
  • Old-time reasons to visit Suzhou
FOR any collector of Chinese antiques, Suzhou - with its thousand years of history - will naturally be a prime destination.
