Showing pff skyline diving
By Xu Xiaomin
THE show put on by 37 BASE jumpers received loud applause and screams from the audience on October 5 in Shanghai's Lujiazui Area. The organizer, China Jin Mao Group Co Ltd, said all 5,000 tickets were sold, with thousands of additional passersby enjoying the show for free. Some experienced foreign jumpers displayed hand-in-hand group jumping, wingsuit jumping and somersaults during free fall; all the risky stunts thrilled the audience. Wu Xinmin, an official with the Shanghai Sports Bureau, expressed hopes the BASE jumping show would be held every year in the future as a classic "sight-seeing sport" for the city. Shanghai has developed several "sight-seeing sports", such as a rowing competition on Suzhou Creek held during the Dragon Boat Festival, a yacht competition on the Huangpu River, a beach volleyball game on Nanjing Donglu and a climbing event held at the Shanghai Oriental Pearl TV Tower. |
