ABOUT 70 senior executives from multinational corporations attended a charity golf competition held at the Shanghai Songjiang Tianma Golf Club last Friday. More than 80,000 yuan (some US$10,000) was raised for the Shanghai Charity Foundation.

The event was first launched as the Executive Charity Golf Event at Tianma Golf Club during the SARS crisis last year and The Eight Group continued its campaign to raise money for the Shanghai Sunrise Charity this year.

"All the money collected will be used to help children from poor families in Shanghai to continue their studies and achieve a better life," said Philip Best, general manager of The Eight Group who has lived in the city for the past eight years. "Our company is located in Shanghai so I wanted to do something for the city."

Money was collected through charity auctions and raffles during an evening of entertainment and dining. Eight winners of the competition also won prizes provided by the Grand Hyatt Bali, Shanghai the Racket Club and Lion Nathan.
