Local brands preferred

A recent market survey has shown that 51.6 per cent of the 500 most popular brands sold in Shanghai were made by Chinese enterprises.

The survey, conducted by the Shanghai Municipal Commercial Information Centre, covered more than 100 commodities sold at 3,000 shopping centers in Shanghai last year.

Of the 10 most popular disc players sold in Shanghai, eight were Made-in-China. In colour television sets, air conditioners, gas cookers and electric rice cookers, six of the 10 top brands were domestic products. About 63 per cent of the listed household electric appliances were Chinese products.
