Yunnan: Due to the holding of its Expo, infrastructure construction was advanced by 10 years. The China 99 Kunming International Horticultural Exposition in Yunnan was the first occasion the country had held a high grade Expo. For the Expo, Yunnan Province invested 18.36 billion yuan (US$2.2 billion) in the construction of an airport, on new roads and on environmental and downtown improvements. The upgrading of infrastructure also helped the province to refine its investment environment.
Hanover: Some 30,000 job opportunities were created. The Hanover Expo in 2000 brought huge economic benefits to Germany. The number of visitors on the first day hit 150,000. Local media commented that the Expo improved Germany's international reputation, investment environment, consumption level and tax receipts.
Osaka: The 1970 Expo resulted in 10 years of dynamic economic expansion in Japan.
The first British Expo saw the debut of the steam engine. The Paris Expo at the turn of the 19th century established the high reputation of the Eiffel Tower, still a steady source of tourist revenue. The Osaka Expo in 1970 unexpectedly gave birth to three large industries: membrane-structure construction, fast food and casual clothing according to Sakaiya Taithi, a speaker at the forum. |
