TUCKED away among beautiful trees and flowers, Hongqiao State Guest Hotel can boast that the scenery viewed from each of its windows is just like a landscape painting. Located in the city's west Hongqiao area, the hotel is in a forest of several hundred camphors, pines and maidenhair trees - a green oasis in a metropolis. Take a stroll around the gardens and you may see squirrels bouncing up trees while you listen to the songs of birds. Three months ago, the hotel finished refurbishing. A Hong Kong designer has made the former severe-looking hotel quite relaxing and soothing. The Palm restaurant on the first floor of the hotel's No. 6 building is uniquely designed with a glass roof far overhead. Natural light through the roof dapples the tables and chairs. The green palms and stone walls make the restaurant a cool place on hot summer days. This is enhanced by a large painting of grass and trees hanging on one of the restaurant's walls. The hotel looks simple at first but take a second look and you will find it is full of exquisite designs, like the iron-sheet painting with a corner deliberately rolled, and the coin-shaped decorations hanging in the hallways. Hongqiao State Guest Hotel also has a building designed for VIP guests and business travelers, providing facilities including the Club Lounge for cocktails, refreshments and an individual business centre. Another feature of the hotel's unique layout is that it still retains over 50 English, American, Canadian and Japanese-style villas hiding among the trees and gardens. Villas are rented either as offices or houses. Hongqiao State Guest Hotel 1591 Hongqiao Lu Tel:6219-8855 |
