Wu Guanzheng (1938- ), native of Yugan, Jiangxi Province.

Member of Political Bureau of 15th CPC Central Committee, and secretary of CPC Shandong Provincial Committee.

Joined CPC, 1962;postgraduate of Faculty of Power of Qinghua University, 1965-1968.

Served as chief of Technical Section and workship chief of Wuhan Gedian Chemical Plant, 1968-1975.

Made deputy directer of Wuhan City Science and Technology Commission, vice chairman of Wuhan City Scientific Association, and concurrently directer and Party secretary of Wuhan City Engineering and Scientific Research Center, 1975-1982.

Standing Committee member, 1982-1983, and secretary, 1983-1986, of CPC Wuhan City Committee; mayor of Wuhan City, 1983-1986.

Became deputy secretary of CPC Jiangxi Provincial Committee, acting governor, and governor, of Jiangxi Province, 1986.

Elected deputy secretary of CPC Jiangxi Provincial Committee, 1990; governor of Jiangxi Province, 1993-1995; secretary of CPC Jiangxi Provincial Committee, 1995-1997.

Appointed Standing Committee member, secretary, and president of Party School, of CPC Shandong Provincial Committee, Apr. 1997.

Elected member of Political Bureau of 15th CPC Central Committee, Sept. 1997.

Elected secretary of 7th CPC Shandong Provincial Committee, Nov. 1998.

Alternate member of 12th CPC Central Committee, 1982; member of 13th, 14th and 15th CPC Central Committees, 1987, 1992 and 1997.

Deputy to 6th to 9th NPC.

Jiang Zemin, in his report to the 16th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, said the Party's door is open to all positive factors of the society, including private entrepreneurs, foreign-invested firm employees, self-employed businessmen and freelance professionals, he also said that the Party should advance with the times.
