  New faces make up over half of 16th CPC Central Committee (11/14/2002)


Some 180 out of the 356 members and alternate members of the new Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee are new faces, sources said in Beijing Thursday.

Delegates to the week-long 16th CPC National Congress elected the new Central Committee. The committee consists of 198 full members and 158 alternate members.

More than 20 percent of the members and alternate members of the new Central Committee are under the age of 50, according to the sources.

Jiang Zemin, in his report to the 16th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, said the Party's door is open to all positive factors of the society, including private entrepreneurs, foreign-invested firm employees, self-employed businessmen and freelance professionals, he also said that the Party should advance with the times.
