The ninth Hubei Provincial People's Congress elected Yu Zhengsheng chairman of its Standing Committee Wednesday at its 5th meeting held in Wuhan, capital of central China's Hubei Province.

Yu, a native of Shaoxing, Zhejiang Province, joined the Communist Party of China (CPC) in 1964, and graduated from the Automation Control Department of Harbin Military Engineering Institute, 1967.

Jiang Zemin, in his report to the 16th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, said the Party's door is open to all positive factors of the society, including private entrepreneurs, foreign-invested firm employees, self-employed businessmen and freelance professionals, he also said that the Party should advance with the times.
