on Jiang's May 31 speech: People's Daily (06/13/2002)
China's leading newspaper, the People's Daily, is to publish a
commentary on Friday urging the implementation of the ideas in the
"Three Represents" as outlined in Jiang Zemin's speech
made on May 31.
The article says the profound speech made by Jiang, general secretary
of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China(CPC), at
the graduation ceremony of the Party School of the CPC Central Committee,
will play a significant role in implementing the ideas in the "Three
Represents" while keeping in line with Deng Xiaoping Theory,
so as to start a new phase in the cause of building socialism with
Chinese characteristics and fulfill the historical tasks of the
Party.
Jiang emphasized in his speech that following Deng Xiaoping Theory
and implementing the "Three Represents" ideas is a prerequisite
for building a socialist society in China.
Keeping in step with the times is the linchpin for implementingthe
concept. The Party must keep up-to-date with modern practices and
use Marxism as a guide when making changes during the process of
development.
The key to carrying out the "Three Represents" is maintaining
the Party's advanced nature, which is shown by the development of
China's advanced productive forces and culture. To fulfill the historical
mission of promoting social progress in China, the Party must put
efforts into the progress of productive forces and culture, and
protect and promote the fundamental interests of the people in order
to reflect the nature and advantages of the socialist system.
The main object of socialism is to serve the people and the Party
must do this whole-heartedly. It should keep close to, completely
trust and rely on the people while learning new skills and methods
in changing situations in order to work for the people.
The speech has encouraged Party members and people throughout the
country to promote the reform and opening-up drive and has caused
an upsurge in the implementation of the "Three Represents"
theory, the commentary stated.
