CPPCC provides powerful support to major state affairs: Li Guixian

The Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) has provided broadly democracy-based support to major state affairs according to the principle of"democracy, truth-seeking, unity and encouragement".

Delivering a report on the CPPCC National Committee's work as entrusted by the Standing Committee of the 9th CPPCC National Committee, Li Guixian said that the 9th CPPCC National Committee has made every effort to make every annual session a success and earnestly participated in the discussion of national economic and social plans, annual government work report and reports on the budget and final accounts and reports by the Supreme People's Court and the Supreme People's Procuratorate. It received more than 3,000 proposals from different parties, organizations and CPPCC members, many of which are of great value.

The Standing Committee of the CPPCC National Committee held 20 meetings and its chairman and vice-chairmen met on 48 occasions to air their views on a large number of major issues, including rural work, state enterprise reform and a series of major resolutions adopted by the central leadership. Many of the views and proposals have been accepted by related policy decision making bodies and some views have been written into documents of the Party central committee.

Over the past five years, he said, the CPPCC National Committee members attended workshops and discussions sponsored by the State Council and the National People's Congress (CPC). The CPPCC National Committee also organized 123 investigation tours around the country.

The CPPCC made timely adjustments of the composition of its members, paying attention to recruit representatives of the new social strata and groups.

The CPPCC has organized timely discussions on the guidelines, policies and major documents of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), held lectures, workshops, symposiums and other programs to help people of all circles to enhance their understanding and consensus, Li said.

He noted that the 9th CPPCC paid special attention to bringing the roles of representatives of minority nationalities and religions into play and seeing to it that the related policies are implemented to the full and in spirit. It also gave great support to the government in fighting against the evil Falun Gong cult and separatist activities.

CPPCC National Committee received more than 300 delegations,totaling more than 4,300 people, from the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan Province as well as overseas Chinese communities during its five-year term of tenure.

oreover, the 9th CPPCC National Committee received over 95,900 letters from ordinary people, collected over 27,200 pieces of information and submitted more than 7,740 comments and proposals to the CPC Central Committee and the State Council.

Guixian attributed the achievements of the Ninth CPPCC National Committee to the correct CPC le adership, saying that thecorrect CPC leadership has provided the fundamental guarantee for the development of the CPPCC.
