Zheng Wantong -- Secretary-General of 10th CPPCC

The following is the biographical sketch of Zheng Wantong, who
was just elected secretary-general of the 10th National Committee
of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC):
Male, born in 1941, a native of Tianjin; joined Communist Partyof
China (CPC) in 1960.
Graduated from Chinese Language Department of Tianjin Teachers'
College in 1961; a teacher at No. 78 Middle School in Tianjin in
1961-1965.
Head of School Work Department of Communist Youth League of China
(CYLA) Hebei District Committee, Tianjin, in 1965-1968; deputy head
of Publicity Department of Communist Party of China (CPC) Hebei
District Committee of Tianjin in 1970-1978; director of General
Office from 1982-1983, and secretary-general, in 1983-1988,of the
CPC Tianjin Municipal Committee.
Guest research fellow at Tianjin Academy of Social Sciences.
Member of Secretariat and vice-chairman of Executive Committee
of All-China Federation of Trade Unions in 1988-1993; deputy head
of United Front Work Department of CPC Central Committee in 1993-1997;
deputy secretary-general of 8th CPPCC National Committee in 1993-1997
and deputy head of the United Front Work Department of the CPC Central
Committee in 1993-1998; vice-chairman of 8th Executive Committee
of All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce in 1998;
Elected secretary-general and a member of the Leading Party Members'
Group of the 9th CPPCC National Committee in Dec. 1998;
Elected a member of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection
of the CPC at 15th CPC National Congress and a member of the CPC
Central Committee at 16th CPC National Congress;
a Standing Committee member of 8th CPPCC National Committee.
