The following is a biographical sketch of Wang Zhongyu, who was
just elected vice-chairman of the 10th National Committee of the
Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC):
Wang Zhongyu
Male, born in 1933, of Han nationality, native of Changchun, Jilin
Province.
Joined the Communist Party of China (CPC) in 1956, received junior
college education at Party School of CPC Central Committee,with
a professional title of senior engineer.
Studied at Shenyang Light Industry Higher Vocational School in
1950-1953; technician, deputy workshop head, secretary of director's
office, engineer, deputy planning head of Jilin Paper Mill in 1953-1967.
Subjected to labor at workshop and on farm during "cultural
revolution" in 1967-1970.
Deputy head of production planning, deputy head and head of General
Office of CPC Committee of Jilin Paper Mill in 1970-1975; deputy
director and chief engineer in 1975-1980.
Deputy director Jilin Provincial No. 1 Light Industrial Bureau
in 1980-1981.
Studied at Party School of CPC Central Committee in 1981-1982.
Director and secretary of Leading Party Members' Group of Jilin
Provincial No. 1 Light Industry Department in 1982-1983.
Standing Committee member and concurrently director of Research
Office of CPC Jilin Provincial Committee, Standing Committee member
and concurrently secretary-general of CPC Jilin Provincial Committee
in 1983-1985.
Deputy secretary of CPC Jilin Provincial Committee in 1985-1988.
Deputy secretary of CPC Jilin Provincial Committee, vice-governor,
acting governor and governor of Jilin Province in 1988-1992.
Deputy director of State Council's Production Office, deputy secretary
of the office's Leading Party Members' Group, deputy director of
State Council's Economic and Trade Office and deputy secretary of
the office's Leading Party Members' Group in 1992-1993.
Minister in charge of State Economic and Trade Commission and secretary
of the commission's Leading Party Members' Group in 1993-1998.
