The following is the biographical sketch of Ding Guangxun, who
was just elected vice-chairman of the 10th National Committee of
the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC):
Ding Guangxun
Male, born in 1915, of Han nationality, native of Shanghai, master
of arts, doctor of theology.
Studied at St. John's University in Shanghai in 1937-1942; secretary
of a Christian youth society in Shanghai in 1942-1945 and of Student
Christian Movement of Canada in 1946-1947; studies at Columbia University
and New York Union Theology College, USA, in 1947-1948; secretary
of Geneva-based World Student Christian Federation in 1948-1951.
Secretary-general of a Shanghai society, president of Nanjing Union
Theological Seminary and vice-president of Nanjing University in
1951-1980.
Chairman of Three-Self Patriotic Movement Committee of Protestant
Churches of China, president of the China Christian Council, vice-chairman
of Jiangsu Provincial CPPCC Committee, Standing Committee member
of National People's Congress (NPC), andmember of NPC Foreign Affairs
Committee in 1980-1989.
Vice-chairman of CPPCC National Committee, chairman of Three-Self
Patriotic Movement Committee of Protestant Churches of China,and
president of the Christian Council of China in 1989-1997.
Vice-chairman of 3rd CPPCC National Committee; Standing Committee
member of 5th CPPCC National Committee, vice-chairman of7th, 8th
and 9th CPPCC National Committee.
Deputy to 3rd, 4th and 5th NPC; member of 6th and 7th NPC Standing
Committee; member of NPC Foreign Affairs Committee.
