The following is a biographical sketch of Chen Kuiyuan, who was
just elected vice-chairman of the 10th National Committee of the
Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC):
Chen Kuoyuan
Male, born in 1941, of Han nationality, native of Kangping, Liaoning
Province. Started to take up a job in September 1964; joined the
CPC in May 1965; graduate of Political Education of the Inner Mongolia
Normal School.
Studied at the Political Education Department of the Inner Mongolia
Normal School in 1960-1964; teacher of Party school of the Hulun
Buir League of Inner Mongolia and member of the Political Work Group
of the Office of the Revolutionary Committee of the League in 1964-1972;
clerk at the office of the Revolutionary Committee of the League
in 1972-1973; head of the Publicity Section of the Party Committee
of the Hulun Buir League in 1973-1978; vice-president of Party School,
Standing Committee member, deputy secretary-general, and secretary-general,
of CPC Hulun Buir League Committee; deputy secretary general and
acting secretary general of the CPC Hulun Buir League Committee
in 1980-1982; secretary general, standing committee member and deputy
secretary of the CPC Hulun Buir League Committee in 1982-1983; secretary
of the CPC Hulun Buir League Committee in 1983-1989; Standing committee
member of the CPC Hulun Buir League Committee and concurrently secretary
of the Tertiary Education Work Committee of the CPC Hulun Buir League
Committee; vice-chairman of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Regional
People's Government in 1991-1992, deputy secretary and secretary
of the CPC Tibet Autonomous Regional Committee in 1992-2000; secretary
of the CPC Henan Provincial Committee in 2000-2002; and President
of the Academy ofSocial Sciences of China starting from 2003.
Member of 14th, 15th and 16th CPC Central Committees.
