The following is the biographical sketch of Ba Jin, who was just
elected vice-chairman of the 10th National Committee of the Chinese
People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC):
Ba Jin
Male, born in 1904, of Han nationality, native of Chengdu, Sichuan
Province; without party affiliation.
Studied at Chengdu Foreign Language Special School in 1921, and
in France in 1927-1929; engaged in literature and art creation after
returning to China in 1929.
Editor-in-chief of Cultural Life Publishing House and Pingming
Publishing House in Shanghai in 1935-1950; editor-in-chief Pingming
Publishing House, vice-chairman of Shanghai Federation of Literary
and Art Circles, and chairman of Chinese Writers' Association Shanghai
Branch after 1950.
Vice-chairman of Chinese Writers' Association and chief editor
of "Literary and Art Monthly," "Harvest" and
"Shanghai Literature"after 1953; chairman of Shanghai
Federation of Literary and Art Circles after 1962; chairman of Chinese
Writers' Association, vice-chairman of China Federation of Literary
and Art Circles, and vice-chairman of CPPCC Shanghai Committee 1977-1983;
vice-chairman of CPPCC National Committee and chairman of Chinese
Writers' Association since 1983.
Delegate to full-member meeting of 1st CPPCC; vice-chairman of
6th to 9th CPPCC National Committee.
Deputy to the 1st to 5th National People's Congress (NPC); member
of 5th NPC Standing Committee.
