Tibetan Girls Keen on Fashion Today

Wearing a brand-name overcoat, a pair of "Lee" jeans,
and with avant-garde makeup, Yuzhoin, a Tibetan girl from the
landlocked Yadong County in the southern part of Xigaze Prefecture
looks no different to the fashion conscious girls who live in
the coastal metropolis.
In an interview with Xinhua, Yuzhoin said that although YadongCounty
was remote, small and surrounded by mountains, girls therenever
give up their effort to follow fashion. Her present trip to Lhasa
was for shopping only.
"Our fashion consciousness is the result of the recent years'local
economic jump which resulted from central government'songoing west
region development policy and preferential policy forethnic groups,"
she continued.
In fact, her parents' generation was too poor to get enoughclothes
to keep warm, let alone choosing color and style ofclothes.
In addition, the most of the younger Tibetans have received modern
education which helps form their own interpretation of beauty and
fashion, she said.
