aficionados ignore prices

Major
international brands in high-fashion and household goods are keen
to identify themselves with the new lifestyles of an increasingly
prosperous segment of the mainland population, especially in the
major cities and coastal regions.
At
the 6th China Daily CEO Roundtable Conference themed "Lifestyle
China" held on Friday in Hong Kong, representatives of several
well-known international luxury brands agreed that it is important
they are seen as an integral part of the lifestyle of successful
business people and professionals rather than just luxury goods.

"And
the key is to translate desire into purchase," says Christina
Hudson, marketing director of the consumer marketing division
of DTC Asia Pacific Ltd.

Luxury
foreign products make inroads

Beijing, November is a time when a hundred brands are blossoming
a hundred bright-coloured luxury brands.

The
downtown Oriental Plaza, a place visited by 200,000 customers
daily during weekends, opened its new shopping arcade to showcase
the world's high-end consumer items.
Just
a week after that, an international jewelry show is being staged,
where foreign merchants are for the first time allowed to directly
cut wholesale and retail deals with their Chinese counterparts.
The show only changed its name to "international" in
2003.

Q: What is the objective of China Daily's CEO Roundtable
meeting?
A: The strategic objective of China Daily's CEO Roundtable
meeting is to bring together CEOs of multinational companies
the movers and shakers in business to get together, to address
each other and share their views on major Chinese economic,
business, industry and management issues.
Q: What are your future plans for China Daily's CEO Roundtable
meetings?
A: "On December 3, 2004, the Asia News Network,
a network of national daily newspapers published in Asian
cities, organized to provide avenues for cooperation and
to optimize coverage of major news events in the region
(http://www.asianewsnet.net), jointly with China Daily,
will organize the 1st ANN CEO Roundtable at the Conrad Hotel
in Hong Kong.
The theme of this top level CEO Roundtable is China: 2005
and Beyond. At this roundtable, CEOs of Fortune 500 and
blue chip regional companies will share their views on latest
development of China's economy covering macro and regional
developments ( the PRD, YRD, the West and the Bohai Gulf).
We will discuss on strategic sectors such as energy, auto,
infrastructure, property, finance, logistics, TMT, manufacturing,
services, etc. We will also share on the outlook of business
opportunities between China and Asian countries. We are
extremely honoured to have Dr. David, K P Li, Chairman and
CEO of the Bank of East Asia, to act as the Honorary Chairman
of this session."
