Low productivity is the Achilles' heel of China's agriculture. Approximately, two thirds of China's population live in rural areas, but the high population does not alter the reality of consistently low agricultural productivity with agricultural output accounting for only 16 percent of the country's gross domestic product (GDP) and 4.9 percent of exports. How to increase the gains of farmers will top the government's agenda as China's entry to the World Trade Organization has a dramatic impact on the country's nearly 800 million farmers.

The establishment of a nationwide comprehensive social credit system is necessary during China's transition from a planned economy to market economy. Without the guarantee of a good social credit system, China's abilities to participate in international competition and attract overseas investment will be severely weakened.

 
 
 

Post WTO: Foreign trade and anti-dumping

 
     
 

Statistics show that China's WTO entry has brought about unexpected results for the Chinese companies who have found themselves embroiled in over 430 legal battles regarding anti-dumping. Experts have called for Chinese firms and industrial associations to take advantage of the WTO dispute-resolution mechanism to fight trade discrimination on the world market, which would redress trade discrimination.
