maybe because it's due to the discrimination of women in western societies. that's why they need title vii for equal rights for women's sport. when will western nations stop the subjugation of women

Just like in other nations and with respect to athletic competitions, one can not reduce the equation to a simple medal count between genders - this ignores the dynamics of each sport, the number of quality nations competing, the number of quality competitors spread out over those nations, and then even after all this, the actual performance of all those competitors.

One would have to review these kinds of considerations for perhaps the 1996, 2000, 2004 and 2008 games - line up sports, results by gender - see where nations and individual competitors were headed, evolving. If 12 women from 9 nations line up in 2012 in the 10,000 meter run and all run under 31 minutes, one would say this group should be considered superior to 12 women from 4 nations lining up in 2016 with a few running under 31 minutes - then, one could review 2012 and 2016 women's results from one country vs. their male countrymen.

One must decide - is the 2008 women's team from China in gymnastics superior to the 2004 team? Or did it just perform better at the right moments? Was the potential of one team superior to the other? And what of the men's team - same questions. Should we imagine that the 2008 Chinese men's gymnasts are superior in potential, talent than the 2004 team? Or should we also consider that the Japanese and American teams performed at a level below their 2004 editions, thus maybe lessening the pressure for 2008 men(?). Japanese gymnasts were astonishingly good in 2004 on the men's side - so perhaps the 2004 Chinese men's team was on par to match the 2008 edition, but ran into some tougher competition in 2004.

Jamaica would be a great study for the 2008 games - match up the 100 meter victories of Shelly-Ann Fraser with Usain Bolt - their margins of victories are comparable - Jamaica swept the women's race, not the men's - but does this mean the women were superior? Maybe - but how did other nations and competitors match up in either race, how did they influence the performances of Jamcaican sprinters?

So, China's men lagging at any point in medals, history? I'm not so sure, though I have no problem letting go of the whole analysis and just having a blast enjoying China's hundreds of incredible perforances - for me, representative of the kind of grit and determination I have witnessed in daily life in China. And by the way - the gymnastics uniforms with the royal red and yellow, designs with the pin in the front - outstanding! This was hard to ignore, even with such classy ladies as Liukin and Johnson leading the way for my homeland.
